Pastor - Rev. Kathy Horne
Kathy comes to us from Ohio. She grew up in Kettering and has lived in the Dayton area most of her life. But, she and her husband, Chuck, do call the world their home as well after living in California, England and Germany. She graduated from Wright State University and taught Kindergarten, Learning Disabilities, Gifted Education and 2nd Grade in area public schools prior to answering a call to Pastoral ministry.
Although she grew up in a large church, it was participation in a small church New Church Development that led to a real deepening of her faith and recognition that she had been given gifts for ministry that she needed to use. Kathy was an active lay participant in church and presbytery before studying at Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary. She has served churches in Ohio as Interim Pastor and Stated Supply, and taught Interim Ministry Education for the PC (USA) for several years.
Planning worship and finding just the right hymns to convey the message of the Scriptures for the day is something that refreshes her faith. Thoughtful sermons with a teacher’s touch are Bible based and connected to our lives together and in the world.
Kathy and her husband Chuck have been married for 43 years. Chuck has been trained as a Commissioned Ruling Elder and does pulpit supply. Both of them have served as Commissioners to the General Assembly. They also both enjoy singing in the church choir, and had a wonderful experience singing Beethoven’s “Ode to Joy” with a community orchestra and chorus last May.
